Welcome to The Developmental Toybox!  My name is Jenny Villalobos.  I am a pediatric Occupational 

Therapist (OT) with almost two decades of experience.  During this time, I have worked with hundreds of 

children across a variety of settings. 

You may be wondering how toys are used in 

occupational therapy?  OT's are healthcare providers 

that assist children in participating in the activities 

(also known as occupations) they need or want to do.  

 To achieve this we use real life objects, such clothing, utensils, toys and games, to target specific skills.   We are trained in task analysis which involves breaking down exactly which skills are required for different tasks.    

One of the things that I am asked most often, by 

parents, is what toys would be best for their child and why.  Understandably, they want to ensure that what 

they are buying for their child is going to be beneficial 

in helping them reach their goals.  This is why I started 

The Developmental Toybox.  It is an online resource for parents, teachers, and other therapists to shop for developmentally sound, therapist-approved toys and to better understand what specific skills the toy will target.
